Quality lost

Few people seem to notice the three drawbacks of FSAA compared to its advantages, which is sad because the drawbacks far out way the advantages. To give you a quick example of just what FSAA does, have a look at this comparison below:

As you can see the left image has some nasty jagged edges along the vertical lines of the steps, turn FSAA up two notches in D3D and things suddenly change. Now the image on the right only has a tiny amount of jaggies, something that isn't noticeable during the game and this is on a low setting.

So what of the three disadvantages to FSAA? The first one is a noticeable loss in quality. Unless you have eye trouble or use games in 16Bit at lower resolutions, then you should be able to see the same things for yourself that we are about to show you:
