"In order to find the ambient case temperature, I left the system powered down for a period of 40 minutes..."

Temperature Tests

Test system specifications:

  • Abit BF6 , Intel 440BX Chipset
  • 128 Megs of PC100 SDRAM
  • Leadtek Geforce 2 GTS
  • Intel PIII 600E@750 (125mhz FSB)
  • Antec 300w Power supply
  • Antec 92mm intake fan dual 80mm cardcooler
Temperature ratings taken from WinBond Hardware Doctor Geforce temperature's measured from Abit motherboard thermal sensor.

Case Temperatures

In order to find the ambient case temperature, I left the system powered down for a period of 40 minutes, with an open case. This insured that any trapped hot air escaped the case, before any testing began. After the time was up, I powered on the system and let it sit idle and took temperatures at five- minute intervals and averaged them together after half an hour. I then repeated this process with the slot-fan installed in the system.

CPU Temperatures

To ensure that the CPU was completely cooled, I gave the system a 40-minute resting period before each test. After the resting period was over, I powered on the system and recorded the CPU temperatures at five-minute intervals and averaged them together after half an hour. I then repeated this process with the slot-fan installed in the system.

To determine how effective the slot-fan was under high CPU stress load, after each idle temperature test, I started up my distribute.net client and recorded the temperature after an hour.
