"...if you're one who is prone to breaking things, or just don't want to take that chance, this may be for you."

Temperature tests were conducted using a stock AMD Duron 700, not overclocked, running on a full load. A one-hour loop of Quake 3: Arena was played during this testing after of which the temperature readings were taken.

Testbed:

  • AMD Duron 700MHz
  • Gen-X Tech OFRIO Super CPU Cooler
  • Abit KT7 Mainboard
  • 192MB SDRAM PC133

With Shim Attached: 36 degrees Celsius
Without Shim Attached: 38 degrees Celsius

Verdict

Do not buy one of these if you're looking to cool your CPU better, instead spend your money on a decent heatsink/fan combo. However, if you're one who is prone to breaking things, or just don't want to take that chance, this may be for you. These are sold for $12.99 over at nerdsbyte.
