Black
& White
Out of the three games here, Black & White quite possibly has
received the most attention from the press and gamers. To give
you some idea of how much the games industry is excited by this
game, Lionhead did not have a stand at ECTS, however Nvidia
did showing off Black & White (on their technology, natch),
Intel likewise were also showing off Black & white on their
stand.

The Magnifying Glass
On the face of it Black & White looks almost like a more advanced
version of Populous: The Beginning. For example, you play on
a world that you can rotate, you have an avatar that represents
you but it can develop into a humungous and awesome creature
whereas in Populous your avatar was a shaman. The last similarity
is that you have a multitude of villagers that do your bidding
and make themselves quaint little villages.
Take
a closer look and you will see that Black & White doesn't just
bowl you over with stunning graphics, but also has more features
than you can count on all of your fingers and toes. After you've
heard all about Black & White you just want to jibber on endlessly
about what gamers are going to be able to do but it's difficult
to know where to start.
Unsurprisingly,
Lionhead have slated their game to work on a range of systems
from the low-end PII-333 plus 3D early card machines to the
latest and greatest PC's on the market. The main graphics engine
is near completion and for those that have seen it in action,
it is obvious that Black & White is silky smooth; the way that
it should be.
