Star Trek: Bridge Commander

The ever-popular but sometimes jeered at universe that is Star Trek is plundered once more for ideas to make what should hopefully be an excellent game, and one that the developers and publishers will want to see rise to number 1 in the games charts. Look at the amount of Star Trek games currently being released on PC and console formats and you begin to wonder why Star Trek is termed by some, "uncool". Paramount have gone into a frenzy with the Star Trek franchise and have been weeding their different television series and movies for all they're worth.

If you have watched any Star Trek episode or film there is always that most dominant of features on the whole of the ship where a lot of battle action takes place, the bridge. This time around we are not looking at a Star Trek game based on newer series such as Voyager or Deep Space Nine but the arguably more respectable "The Next Generation" series and its mostly recognisable crew. Based totally on the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D and U.S.S. Enterprise-E, Bridge Commander already sounds interesting. Let's just hope it doesn't turn out like the interactive tour of the bridge, Captain's Chair that was to say the least, dire.

Hull breach imminent, sir!

Totally Games are responsible for the main development of Bridge Commander, this bodes well as they have already been involved with classics such as X-Wing space combat series in collaboration with LucasArts who make up the games division of the Lucas Entertainment empire. Totally Games' 3D engines have always had the added bonus of working on a good range of machines while maintaining high levels of detail in space themed games, Bridge Commander should be no exception.
