Several
stands were showcasing the Dreamcast this year, some just showing
the games and others the console itself. Overall the games they
showed were very impressive looking, taking full use of 32Bit
textures and the high quality sound system to produce some very
nice gaming experiences. However we couldn't help but notice
that most of the games and styles had been done before and done
before in a better way. For example, Sonic: Adventure looked
amazing and played quite well however you tended to be limited
by where you could go (like Sonic in 2D, but with 3D... not
like Mario64). The same went for Sega Rally2, which looked good
and played well but was still something many have seen before.
One
of the reasons the Sony PSX was and indeed still is so successful
comes from the fact that it didn't have to stick with UNIQUE
TITLES. By that I mean Nintendo and Sega have their own arcade
divisions and 80% of the games invariably come from those, the
whole Dreamcast needs a broader horizon if it is to succeed
over PSX2 and the Dolphin. On the other hand it did look good
and some of the titles were impressive, it looks to be a HOT
console for this Autumn and one worth buying.
