Perhaps
the most graphically stunning game at the entire show Hostile
Waters easily stole many on people from the crowds that walked
past Rage Softwares booth. Martin had one of his friends show
us around the game, he took us through the intro and a level
or two. Graphically it's stunning, again like all other Rage
games it uses the very latest in technology for the engine.
If
I had to describe what type of a game HW was I think I would
say, "An original move on the C&C style genre".
Think Battlezone mix in with Q3A then add some.. Well that's
the best I can say because there's more unique about this game
than meets the eye. The physics model is written so explosions
and all the game elements act like they would in real-life (or
as close to) and the detail on models is again astounding.
It's
quite hard not to be instantly taken by HW, there's so much
to do and see that your brain is rattled into a sense of awe.
The gameplay itself takes a few moments to sink into as the
initial graphics and sound tend to steal the show.
Fact
of the matter is the gameplay is amazing, I have a preview of
HW from my days of 4G and I will have to pop that up in SP3D
so you get an idea of just how good it is. You take control
of helicopters, fighters and a number of ground units. The idea
being that you cordinate your attack through a simple interface
on your objectives. Takeing control of any vehicle is easy although
don't expect to see Troops in this game as with the engine and
physics model that would just be far to much.
Ultimately
Hostile Waters is set for end 99/early 2000 release, it's going
to rock the charts and your'll understand why when you see it!
