Compatibility
Finally one area that you don't even need to research in order
to understand that Intel is by far the most compatible. Literally
everybody writes for them (bar the obvious O/S or two) and AMD
products old and new have always had the occasional problem
with games and apps here and there. When it comes down to a
battle between AMD and Intel on this subject, Intel wins hands
down. Current Score:- AMD [3] = INTEL [2].
Choices/Options
This area specifies what kind of options and thus choices each
hardware maker has. Another one where Intel win by quite some
distance, there's a huge choice of motherboards and CPUs from
the chip giant but not much from AMD. So far AMD have been a
little slow on the uptake of new chipset technologies, be it
for motherboards, CPUs or other. The K7 alone is only supported
by a few manufacturers and has only had two chipset revisions
(KX133 by VIA is the most recent).
On
the other hand we have Intel, supported by just about EVERY
board maker around and keen to bring out CPUs/Chipsets more
technologically advanced than AMD at every turn. Their newest
boards support RIMM Memory, AGPx4, 133Mhz FSB and are built
on 0.25 and 0.18micron. So once again Intel wins. Current score:-
AMD [3] = INTEL [3].
