"One of the key areas that makes Red Alert2 so appealing and away from the norm is that they've gone one step further with interactivity."

With AI being so poor you have to keep a constant vigil on the battlefield and knowing what your units can do and where you're moving them is very relevant. Overall we found the AI to be fun, yet at times frustrating for the simple fact the game barely has any - units require your constant mothering or face certain doom.

The Multi-Purpose Unit

One of the key areas that makes Red Alert2 so appealing and away from the norm is that they've gone one step further with interactivity. For the first time you can use various units to do more than their intended task. The Allies are easily the best example of this, a standard $200 GI (infantry) can not only do the usual attacks, but also turn himself into a more powerful sandbagged defence, garrison buildings and even jump inside several units and give them an extra weapon by doing so.

In fact the mobile air defence tank is specifically designed for this kind of behaviour, stick a GI in and it turns from air defence to mobile machine gun, add an engineer and it can heal other vehicles - plenty more things to try as well! This kind of versatility in gameplay is unique and almost unheard of before, it also adds for a lot more scope in the core gameplay. Such as tricking a group of tanks into a city where several buildings are garrisoned by 30 troops - certain death =).

The soviets also have their own advantages, such as the powerful and formidable Tesla troops that take out units using massive energy discharges. You can even use them to recharge and or increase the range of Tesla coils even if there's no power! They also have another trooper known as crazy Ivan, his unique ability is that of being able to plant bombs on anything - yes - ANYTHING!
