Wind Tunnel Plus Review
posted: January 7, 2001 @ 8:38 EST by: ryan
Have you had enough of all the recent Xbox and network splits / closures? Well, TweakTown has reviewed the CoolerGuys Wind Tunnel Plus ATX mid-tower DIY overclockers case:
"It's not very often that we get cases send to us at TweakTown to review, in fact this is TweakTown's first computer case review. This is mainly because of the cost of shipping from the USA to Australia, the USA being where most cases are manufactured or distributed from. However, Todd from CoolerGuys was kind enough to send us one of their new "value" overclockers mid-tower ATX cases called the Wind Tunnel Plus to have a look at. This stylish and solid case is designed for the value market with overclockers in mind. The case features two stunning (professional) looking blowholes which have been laser cut to fit two high speed Sunon 92mm case fans & grills."

Distributed Computing
posted: January 5, 2001 @ 3:33 EST by: ryan
HardwareCentral has posted up an article on Distributed computing, where to put those idle CPU cycles:
"SETI@home, distributed.net, two popular forms of distributed computing have more than proven the concept, where millions of computers, mostly located in people's homes, crunch away at data packets sent out by their servers. But there's actually a lot more potential surrounding this or similar forms of distributed computing."

Abit SH6 Review
posted: January 5, 2001 @ 7:14 EST by: ryan
Jsi Hardware has posted a review of the Abit SH6 motherboard:
"As you can see from the specs the board features integrated Audio and Video, now before you all scream "no way would I want a integrated motherboard in my box" listen up for a minute. As well as integrated video the board also features a 4x agp slot should you want to use something better such as a Geforce or Radeon card. Another nice Feature I noticed was the inclusion of 6 Pci slots, something I have seen Abit do a lot lately and something I like as well.

PenStarSys had the chance to do an in depth review of the Jazz Speakers Rocco 5.1 Dolby Digital set. Many other sites have trashed this setup, as the sound truly is sub optimal. There are some redeeming features to this set though, and with a lot of patience and time, fairly acceptable sound can be squeezed from this set.

"Either the standard for graphics has really gone through the roof or I'm just going blind. Put simply, Alice is a stunning piece of work. The fantastic environments within this game were my main motivation to keep going. Those long nights the development team spent in front of the crack pipe were definitly not in vain."

DFI AK74-AC Mobo Review
posted: January 4, 2001 @ 6:33 EST by: ryan
EXHardware has just posted up a review of DFI's latest Socket A mainboard - the AK74-AC with built in support for 133/266 DDR operation, ATA-100 and AGP4X! These features are of course built around the VIA KT133A chipset which has also found it's way into quite a number of new Socket A mainboards on the market now. Head on over to the review for more! Here's a snip:
"Whose DFI ? Well, not many of us may have heard of DFI but they have been around for quite sometime now manufacturing some solid mainboards for the OEM market with a product line of over 50 models! Sure, they may not be as popular as ABIT or Asus but they have definately been around for awhile. This time around, we take a look at the DFI AK74-AC, which is DFI's all in one Socket A mainboard combining the VIAKT133A chipset which allows 133/266 DDR operation and PC-133 memory modules, ATA-100 support as well as AGP 4X support."

Epox 3SPA3L i815EP Review
posted: January 4, 2001 @ 6:32 EST by: ryan
TweakTown kicks off their first motherboard review of 2001 with the Epox 3SPA3L, which may be the first review of such a product to hit the Net. The 3SPA3L is based on the Intel 815EP chipset and suited for socket 370 processors, the chipset is exactly the same as the Intel 815E chipset instead it has no onboard video which should make the board cheaper than 815E boards, in theory. This board is the fastest Intel 815 board TweakTown have tested, BIOS overclocking features are fantastic and stability is rock solid so TweakTown gave it their Editor's Choice Award:
"The Epox 3SPA3L is a top quality motherboard with lots of good (and new) features and fantastic overclocking features in the BIOS which are perfect for the "newbie" overclocker. This is the fastest Intel 815 we have tested and is also one of the most stable ATX motherboards we have ever tested. Epox have done a good job with the 3SPA3L, this is something we have become to expect from Epox lately with their newest boards based on all different chipsets, not just the Intel 815EP. With any luck, Epox will (soon) release this board into the budget market at a respectable (low) price, which will make it ideal for those that are money conscious as it is indeed value for money with all the includes features. As you can see, we were impressed with the Epox 3SPA3L and it has now become the Intel reference board for testing products at TweakTown. After careful consideration, we present you with the ratings for the Epox 3SPA3L... Nice job Epox!"

2CoolPC/2CoolPC-Plus
posted: January 3, 2001 @ 5:29 EST by: ryan
TechWatch has posted up their review of the 2CoolPC/2CoolPC-Plus cooling unit, complete with pictures and temperature readings. Lazy-Quote™:
"For those not ‘in the know’, the 2CoolPC/Plus looks like a big plastic funnel with a fan at one end, not a mean lean piece of cooling equipment... The concept of the 2CoolPC / Plus is simple - it ducts air from the bottom of your case, where cool air 'resides' (remembering hot air rises), through the use of a fan."

Coolermaster ATCS310 Case
posted: January 3, 2001 @ 5:08 EST by: ryan
Hexus.net has posted up a review of the Coolermaster ATCS310 case. This case is a silver beauty with a lot of features. It also carries a massive price tag, but it is one damn fine case! Here's a taster:
"The case has 4 wheels on the bottom of it and as it is such a large case this is a good idea and it makes life a lot easier when you want to move it about, this also allows airflow under the case (so that the case doesn't get warm if you stand it on the ground in a hot area, it is also tempting to cut 2 80MM holes in the bottom of the case just so better airflow can happen."
