GeForce3 w/Blue Orb
posted: June 14, 2001 @ 9:01 EDT by: ryan
Iamnotageek has posted up a review of a GeForce 3 that comes with a blue orb, this card was obviously meant to be overclocked:
"In this review I covered only this specific card, I didn't get into the inner working of the GeForce 3. I leave that to guys like Tom and Anand. I covered the most of the performance aspects of this card, so as driver versions bench's, anti aliasing bench's, overclocking, and of course directx 8 performance in both 3d mark 2001, and AquaNox."

Samsung SM-308 RWCombo
posted: June 14, 2001 @ 8:59 EDT by: ryan
EXHardware has posted up a review of the Samsung SM-308 RWCombo CD-RW/CD-ROM/DVD 8x8x4x32 drive. Here's a snip:
"Ever faced a problem with drive space in your computer? Physically, that is. Most computers now have a DVD-ROM Drive, a CD-ROM Drive and sometimes even a CD-RW Drive as well. Having three drives can take up lots of space in your case and can use up three of your four precious IDE channels. With Samsung's SM-308 RWCombo drive, you need not worry anymore. This magnificient little drive combines a 8x DVD drive, 32x CD-ROM drive, 8x CD-R drive and a 4x CD-RW drive which means that you can now have all three drives in one unit."

Antec SX1240 Case Review
posted: June 13, 2001 @ 5:08 EDT by: ryan
Hardware Daily has posted a review of the Antec SX1240 Full Tower Case, another product in Antec's high quality line of Performance Series cases. This case also includes a relatively new product from Antec, the PP412X power supply. Here is a blurb:
"The only other noteworthy part of the installation is the floppy
drive. To install a floppy in this case you must remove the face
plate. Now if you have not read the instructions and don’t figure it
out on sight, it will seem quite confusing. However the installation
is remarkably simple. After removing the faceplate you will see two
thumbscrews used to retain the floppy drive tray in the case.
Removing these screws allow it to slide out and then the floppy can
be installed, and the tray reattached."

Gainward GeForce3 Review

Over at [H]ardOCP they have posted up a review of the gainward GeForce3. Here's some direct rippage:
Now that we all know a GeForce3 is not going to cost US$600, we are starting to see a bunch more Vid Card companies jump in to the fray. Gainward is one of those companies and they are aiming squarely at the retail market here in the U.S. If this GeForce3 does not get your attention, then odds are, none of them will.

MSI StarForce 822 GeForce3
posted: June 12, 2001 @ 2:51 EDT by: ryan
MSI StarForce 822 GeForce3 review over at PCStats:
"The first thing I thought when I saw the MSI StarForce 822 was "Damn, this card looks sweet!" Of course the Starforce 822 boasts the mighty nVidia GeForce 3 GPU, which in itself is enough to leave me in awe. What makes this card stand out from other GeForce 3 offerings is the presence of a daughter card with TV-IN/TV-Out and S-Video out. Odly the MSI Starforce 822 came out of the box lacking memory heatsinks. Never one to leave things alone, I probably would have removed the stock memory heatsinks and added my very own anyway. MSI saved me quite a bit of trouble by leaving the memory heatsinks off of the card. Nevertheless, I was still called "crazy" for adding ramsinks to my GeForce 3 - thus voiding the warranty to a $600CDN videocard. But what the heck, you only live once right?"

CaseJunkiez has posted up a review of the Glowire? Heres a snippet:
For that real custom look you can't go past Glowire, technically called Electro-luminescent wire. What it really is, is a copper core with a phosphorous coating that uses two thin strands of wire wrapped around the core and when voltage is applied, emits light similar to a neon.

Speedguide.net has a new article up discussing the ever popular growing Satellite Communications for internet access springing up all over the world, it's a great read on Satellite technology and methods. Here's a Quote from the article:
"So you're waaaaaaay out in the country, and neither DSL nor Cable is an option. Like say ..in Kosova. Or Bosnia. Or, God forbid, North Dakota. Perhaps on a ship. You'd like to get the internet, but carrier pigeon seems to be your only option. Wherever you are, if you're north of the equator and have a view of the visible sky to the south of you, you may have another option. You can probably get internet ...via Satellite. Yes, just like Wolf Bliitzer and James Bond you too can have nearly instant communications with the vast internet."

Kensington Expert Mouse Pro
posted: June 8, 2001 @ 11:51 EDT by: ryan
Hardware Daily has posted a review of a trackball mouse from Kensington, the Expert Mouse Pro. Here is a blurb:
"Admittedly, I think I would have completely hated my experience with this trackball if it weren’t so versatile. I found that all the
shortcomings I dreaded were cleared up easily enough with the
customizability of the mouse. The addition of features such as double
click or the ability to browse all open programs compensated for my
previous unwillingness to use a trackball. Now I won’t lie to you and
say that this mouse has made me a convert, but it has shown me the
true advantages of trackball versus normal mouse."

Another IceMat Review
posted: June 8, 2001 @ 11:50 EDT by: ryan
AcidHardware have just completed their review of the Icemat glass mousing surface:
"The Icemat can only be purchased directly from Icemat.com and costs $US28.40 excluding shipping. For comparisson, you can purchase an Everglide Giganta for $US14.99, a Ratpadz for $US13 and a fUnc 1030 for $19.99. As you can see, the Icemat is significantly more expensive than the other three pads. This is mainly due to the fact that glass is more expensive than plastic. The inclusion of the "Pad Surfers" would have also contributed to this high price tag but I doubt to the extent that they have had to price it this high. Also, don't forget about the shipping costs. The shipping cost from Denmark will be significantly more, especially when you consider how much more heavy glass is over plastic. You can put your own custom logo on the Icemat instead of the default logo. Minimum order is 20 mats and the price depends on the logo you want."
